Continuing Clean Water Projects in Guatemala

For One Another volunteers Pam and Dennis Boehle-Silva spent 10 days distributing filters in several pueblos around Antigua, Guatemala, in addition to distributing filters to teachers and staff at a Spanish language school.
In addition to distributing 100 filters, Pam and Dennis, along with their interpreters and community liaisons, Billy and Mirna, followed up on several filters they distributed last summer. At one house they were able to back flush and clear a filter that appeared to be broken. They worked with Billy to ensure that the family knew how to flush the filter, and were aware that they needed to clean the filter daily. As Pam notes, “Clean water is essential in this household, as the wife makes tortillas to sell each day, and they have a young son.”
We’re so grateful to Pam and Dennis for their long-term commitment to clean water work in Guatemala – having volunteers check on the filters we’ve distributed can be a key way to ensure that families’ filters are working correctly and remind them about the cleaning process as needed.
